Lori and I are on the water again. We left our marina on Thursday and spent the night at Ganges. Friday we continued on to Nanaimo, where we met up with 20 other C-Brats (18 C-Dories and 2 beer can boats). Had a great time, but it was HOT, HOT, HOT! There is a high pressure system parked over the PNW that took the temps in Nanaimo to close to 100, whereas 75 is more the norm. I am sure you folks in Utah and the SW are enjoying our discomfort!
The C-Brats really are an extended family for us here. We have gotten to know so many of them quite well, and we all share our life experiences far beyond boating.
We stayed an extra night -- most folks left on Sunday -- and on Sunday afternoon I taught myself, from a book, to splice an eye into a fender line (the eye is threaded through a snap, which is snapped onto a D-Ring on the hull, thus making it easier and neater to deploy the fenders.
Monday morning we packed up, and with our friend John from Montana on his beer can boat Paradise, made our way across the Strait of Georgia, the big body of water that separates Vancouver Island from the mainland. It took us a little while to sort out how to deal with the chop but once we did, we made a good 18-20 mph most of the way. We are currently moored in a little picturesque marina, Secret Cove. Tonight we will make a communal dinner with John and in the morning continue our progress toward Princess Louisa Inlet and Chatterbox Falls (probably no falls due to this very dry summer.)
